ADHD just might make your child feel like the "ugly duckling," without you or your child even realizing it.

If you are not familiar with the story of "The Ugly Duckling," then I suggest you run out to your local bookseller or library and read this incredible story by Hans Christian Anderson.

From what I remember, this fairy tale story tells of a mother duck who hatches her eggs one season. As the story goes, all of her ducklings are normal but one. Standing out from the other ducks, this particular one is a dreary grey color, bigger than his brothers and sisters, and clumsier than the rest. He just does not seem to fit in. He struggles for sometime to fit in and become a part of his family. But it does not seem to ever make a difference. Soon, everyone around him notices how different he is and they make him feel terrible.

One day this duckling finally decides to leave his family and go out on his own. He has had enough of the ridicule of being different and the constant struggle and fight to fit in with everyone else. After a year of aimless wandering and looking for hope, he finally comes across a pond where there are beautiful swans swimming around. Caught admiring their beauty, the swans welcome him and are stunned by his beauty. Noticing his reflection in the water, the lost soul suddenly realizes that he is a beautiful swam, and not an ugly duckling.

I am not usually one for sentimental stories to inspire people to be better, but this story truly reveals the inner and outer struggle that children face when they are diagnosed as having ADHD.

We live in a society that tends to point out the differences as negative, and overlook all the beauty, wisdom, appeal, and uniqueness that someone different has to offer the world.

Whether your child has long been diagnosed with attention deficit, or you suspect your child might show symptoms of the disorder, be sure that you highlight the strengths and unique talents that often go hand in hand with a child diagnosed with ADHD.

And now I would like to invite you to download an almost 60-minute audio interview available at http://www.adhdsuccessaudio.com where one successful professional reveals his personal struggle and success managing his symptoms of ADHD over the last 15 years.
