Eating the wrong foods can increase how much you pay for insurance. Stop eating at fast food restaurants - or at least cut the number of days you eat at fast food restaurants in half. And stop ordering fries and other fried foods. It may seem difficult at first, but you'd be surprised how quickly you'll adapt.

Eat more fish and less fatty red meat. Eat a piece of fruit every day and have a vegetable with your meal.

Walk more. Walk around the block three days a week. Join a group that walks around the mall in the mornings. Ride a bike or walk to do as many errands as you can. Just get up and move!

Increase your co-payment. A 50% co-pay each time you visit your doctor will save you quite a bit every month on your premium.

Increasing your deductible is probably the fastest and the easiest way to lower the cost of your health insurance. Just be sure you can afford to pay your deductible each year.

Consider a Heath Savings Account, or HSA. An HSA is a tax-free savings account out of which you pay for your medical needs every year. Anything left over in your account at the end of the year rolls over tax-free into the following year.

Part of your HSA account includes a low-cost super high deductible health insurance. This low-cost health insurance has a deductible of around $1,100 for an individual or $2,200 for a family. Your insurance is not designed to pay anything each year toward your normal health needs. Instead this insurance is designed to protect your home and other assets if you should suffer a catastrophic event that runs up astronomical medical bills.

HSA policies can be purchased through your credit union or your bank or through an insurance company or even through your employer.
