How to Get an Affordable North Carolina Health Insurance Plan
Contrary to popular belief, affordable health insurance does exist. Here's how to get an affordable North Carolina health insurance plan with a reputable company.
Affordable Health Insurance Plans
The most affordable health insurance plans are called managed health care plans. there are three types of managed health care plans:
Health Maintenance Organization Plans (HMOs)
HMOs provide health care for their members through a network of doctors and hospitals. You pay a monthly premium for their services and are responsible for a copayment for each doctor visit, usually $5 to $10. You are assigned a primary care physician who oversee your care, and you must use the doctors and hospitals within your network.
Preferred Provider Organization Plans (PPOs)
PPOs also provide health care through a network of doctors and hospitals, but insteand of paying a monthly premium you pay for services when you receive them. Copayments are usually more than with HMOs and you may be required to pay a deductible. You can see a doctor outside your network for an additional fee.
Point of Service Plans (POSs)
POSs combine the characteristics of an HMO and a PPO. Like an HMO you do not pay a deductible and only pay a minimal co-payment. Like a PPO you may visit a non-network doctor or hospital, but you'll likely have to pay a deductible and a larger co-payment.
