Massage Therapists - Factors to Consider in Choosing Your Professional
An important aspect in receiving a massage is choosing a massage therapist. The profession in recent years has had substantial growth, and many certified masseuses have received their training and are able to provide the services requested. However, with so many M.T., again which do you choose?
There are two main groups of Massage Therapists: traveling and storefront. Your first consideration when deciding is would you like them to come to you, or would you prefer to go to their storefront. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, however be concerned on how you feel, because whether at home or in their office, if you feel uncomfortable to have them in your home or feel uncomfortable to be at their office. The affects and desired outcome of the therapy will be less affective if you cant relax because you are uncomfortable.
Other areas you may want to consider is personal references from family, friends, or co-workers, which will help narrow your decisions, especially if you are similar in personality to the people you ask references from. However, despite the references in favor of one Masseuse over another, still do your own research. Your friends will give reference according to their preferences, likes or dislikes, which may differ from yours. Cost may be and issue and the referred M.T. may be more expensive than you are willing spend. They may use certain oils that cause irritation to your skin. Though references are a good place to start, keep in mind to do your own research and find out what is important to you or what is not important to you in receiving a massage. The referred therapists store may be to far away and he/she is not willing to travel.
Is it important that you also use a certified massage therapist or a therapist in training? What are the benefits or disadvantages of both? A certified masseuse has been trained and has had many hours of experience in performing the techniques required to soothe the body.
I remember when a friend of mine called a certified masseuse because her neck had stiffened and did not lessen with time. She waited a couple of days but the pain and stiffness remained. He came out to her home, though insecure about having a male in her home alone she asked me to be there. I was shocked to find out that his knowledge of the muscular formation in the body allowed him to know which muscle was actually causing the stiffness and irritation. One without knowledge would assume it was the neck muscle, however this was not the case the muscle which was causing the problem was near the shoulder blade on the back. He massaged her neck and shoulder blade and at the end of 15 minutes she was able to move her neck. Though there remained some discomfort in moving her neck her ability to move her neck was significantly better, and the following day, there was just the memory of the pain.
