We all have that friend, or roommate who is into all the organic food and supplements, and they claim they are healthier for everything they are taking. When asked specifically what the health benefits of the product are, they normally give us an answer which is very broad or vague. In the end they basically say they are healthier and that's that. Well if you are curious about some answers, I can help you out a little, at least with some information about the essential fatty acid, Omega 3.

Like I said earlier, Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid, meaning the body does not have the ability to create the fatty acid by itself, but instead must get it from some other source. A common source of Omega 3 is fish oil, but can also be found in more convenient daily softcaps. Well now that we know how to get Omega 3, what exactly does it do for our bodies?

In 2004 the food and drug administration produced a claim for Omega 3 fatty acids stating, there is supported research showing that Omega 3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. This claim added on to there previous 2001 claim stating people with certain circulatory problems, such as varicose veins, benefit from the fatty acids. This is because omega 3 stimulates blood circulation, increases the breakdown of fibrin (a compound involved in clot and scar formation), and it also lowers blood pressure. There is also very strong scientific support Omega 3 fatty acids help to reduce blood triglyceride levels, and consistent consumption can help reduce the risk of secondary and primary heartattacks.

Support and strengthening of the cardiovascular system is just one of many benefits provided by regular intake of omega 3 fatty acids. You now have a little bit of information to throw at your know it all roommate or friend, and can prove to them they are not the only doing something for their health. Or if you're the friend/roommate, you can finally impress your friends and make them think you know what or talking about. If you like this article and are interested in learning more health benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids keep an eye for more articles coming in future weeks.
