Panic attack symptoms are very common in individuals that suffer from anxiety disorders. Individuals who suffer from anxiety disorders are unable to function appropriately when they experience the symptoms associated with their medical conditions. There are many different types of anxiety disorders that an individual may suffer from. These include obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety in social situations, phobias, panic disorder, and more. In this article, we will explore symptoms that are common to specific panic attacks.

An individual that experiences a panic attack may suffer from any of the above-mentioned anxiety disorders. There are also many individuals who experience a panic attack at some point in their life, and then that is it. These attacks may come as a result of a specific condition, or simply as a response to stress. These attacks come on suddenly, and often do not give the sufferer any type of warning.

When an individual experiences this type of uncomfortable condition, the physiological events that happen within the body are a result of raging hormones that are working to protect the body from something that it views as a threat. We all have a normal "fight or flight" response to stress and various other factors. Some people have been known to experience panic attack symptoms in a time frame as small as one minute. There are others that have experienced these symptoms for up to fifteen minutes. Individuals with severe panic attacks can endure symptoms for many hours all at once.

There are many different types of panic attack symptoms that may occur. These symptoms may be physical and/or mental. Listed below are common elements of each kind of symptom:

Mental

Thoughts that race

A deep sense of doom

Excessive worry that holds no rationality

Experiencing nervousness

Feeling as if all control has been lost

Delayed or over active responses to situations and stimuli

Feeling as if thoughts are quite loud

Physical

Difficulties in breathing, or shortness in breath

Experiencing sweating

Possible dizziness

Nausea and even possible vomiting

Feeling as if choking is occurring

Extreme exhaustion

Feeling as if the heart is racing harshly

Hyperventilation

Numbness and tingling

It is important that you understand that the symptoms mentioned here are among the most common symptoms that are experienced. There are many other common experiences that individuals have been known to have when they have a panic attack. This includes having an excessive fear of dying, senses that seem to be increased, and even feeling as if they have lost total control of their body and life.

Many individuals feel as if they may simply die when they experience the symptoms that are associated with attacks of panic. However, the body is attempting to protect itself from what it perceives as harm. While it is unlikely that an individual will actually die as a result of this type of attack, it is possible for the body to suffer in numerous ways when it is reacting to the item that is considered to be a danger.

If you experience any of the above symptoms, and have not been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, it is imperative that you seek the attention of a medical professional as soon as possible. They will be able to determine if you are suffering from panic attack.
