Probably the most overlooked area of pay per click and direct response marketing is tracking. It is absolutely vital to know exactly how much your advertising is costing you and whether your actually making any money. It\'s not acceptable to leave it to see whether your advertising bill is bigger than your sales revenue for that month. It\'s also not as simple as setting up an Adwords campaign and getting people to your site and watching the money roll in.

Pay Per Click is becoming very competitive nowadays with more and more people working out methods to gain an advantage over their competition. You might only be paying 20 cents per click but how many people that click thru are buying. If only one in 200 people is buying, does your profit margin allow for this to be profitable?

By tracking you will know exactly what\'s going on with each ad group. Which ones are profitable, which ones should be deleted and which ones just need a little split testing to get them into profitability.

So how do we do this? Well the method I recommend is with the free Google Analytics system that is available when you are using Adwords. You simply have to paste a script onto the pages you want to track and then log into your Adwords account and see the results. Putting the tracking script on your \'thank-you\' page that is reached when a sale is completed will show you how many people are buying from each ad group.
